Daehyeon-dong Clover Murder Case

Exhibition Description

Story: One day, Seodaemun police station got an urgent phone call from Mr. Rabbit, who lives in Unit 302 of Lucky apartment in Daehyeon-dong. A clover field in Daehyeon-dong was found brutally damaged. Detective Kim Da-jung from the Seodaemun Police Station starts to search. Several neighboring animals are on the list of suspects, but eventually the real culprit, “human”, is caught.

Curator’s Intention: Human civilization is built on nature, and we are living by exploiting nature without any doubts. “The clover field” in the Daehyeon-dong Clover Murder Case symbolizes “Peace”. The field on the side of APM Park in Daehyeon-dong is found trampled brutally. The suspects were Kim To-ji, Jo Jae-bi and John B. Human police interrogated them, but the culprits were a human couple, not the animals on the suspect’s list. But the culprits were confused not knowing what the problem was. They said their parents taught them how to make clover rings and crowns (or they knew it by searching on the Internet), and they made the crowns and rings by tearing down the clovers to win his lover’s favor. Humans have enjoyed the convenience of civilization without any doubt like this. And there has been a series of victories. A criminal who tore ‘peace’ apart smiles with a pure face. Whether we knew it but pretended we didn’t, or really didn’t. The criminal is human. We take a short break in parks. The park itself, which is created for good views in cities, may be deceptive. Because humans broke down the original form and built a “bright” civilization on it. It is a contradiction of human beings who want to live with nature while trampling on it at the same time. Most people who come to parks will not find any problems when they see spaces which are imitating nature. As if the way to make clover rings and crowns passes down to their descendants. Yes, as long as we’re born, we live by stepping on someone or something. Whether it’s nature or someone like us. If we talk like this, someone might ask “you’re going to break up with the world?” One might accuse “Isn’t the art installation material also the result of exploitation as well?” Nevertheless, the reason for doing this work is because I don’t want to end up thinking of defeatism and skepticism. We want to live with awareness continuously. We want to train in the process of making work. And we believe someone will be inspired by us. At the same time, it is the least conscience excuse of the cowardly.
