We, Jisu

Exhibition Description

Jisu is my younger sister born in 2000. Jisu doesn’t like to talk about her childhood memories. There may have been many pleasant days, but most of the time she fell asleep alone in front of the television while waiting for mom and dad in an empty house. My parents wanted us to be happy depending on each other. We actually were. But sometimes we were so lonely while they were away.
-Excerpt Artist’s Statement-

<We, Jisu> started with the memories my family experienced. A memory with a lonely and desolate atmosphere is a kind of “embodied memory” that spontaneously springs to mind, just like my younger sister’s appearance on a television screen. Apart from my consciousness, this embodied memory that forms me wanders through a space that seems to have fragmented parts of the house.
